Hey loves! Do you have family traditions within your family? Is it something you do annually or monthly? For this year I want to focus more on creating impactful and shared experiences in my family’s everyday life. I think that sometimes we get so busy in our everyday lives that we forget that memories are life lasting; and so important for your little ones mental development. Not only does family traditions allow you to create valuable memories for yourself; but it also lets you create those memories for your children as well. Now this doesn’t mean that you have to spend big bucks on creating these memories. They can be something inexpensive that can be done annually, or weekly to have something your family can look forward to.
Gives Children a Sense of Security
According to an article from Institute For Family Studies, it states “Family traditions help life make sense to our children. Like routines, they provide predictability and a sense of security and safety. Family traditions help children feel as though they fit in somewhere. And in time, the traditions come to define who each person in the family is, countering alienation, and offering steadiness and certainty.” This is why creating a tradition that never changes and is always constant is so important. It lets your children and yourself know that family will always be there.
Builds the Bond Between Family Members
Spending quality time with family members can strengthen the bond between each other. Especially at a younger age with your children, it’s important to nurture that relationship. Researchers have found that families that engage in frequent traditions have a stronger connections than families who don’t engage in family traditions. Building a deeper bond with a family member, gives you the chance to fully know and understand them as a person.
Traditions Give You Something to Look Forward to
When you start a family tradition, it gives you and your family something to look forward to every year or week. It gives them something to appreciate and anticipate when it’s coming up. I don’t know about you but I know that if we have a family trip planned; I’m counting down at work until the day we leave! This is why a tradition is something you look forward to. It’s nice to have something that you are anticipating doing with your loved ones. It makes your days more enjoyable. Something simple as a Taco Tuesday Night, can be a family tradition. Just start a tradition for your family and enjoy every minute of it.
Traditions are something that is Constant
We all know that our lives can be hectic and constantly changing. But with traditions it’s something that will always be there; it never stops nor changes. Things are changing so rapidly, and things always come and go. Family Traditions give us the time to live in the moment, and enjoy something that we do as a family. It gives us the time to slow down and truly appreciate what we have as a family. Our lives are constantly dominated by work, social media, and other demands. But with traditions they can be a lifelong commitment, as long as you create them.
I hope this was helpful to anyone. I think it’s so important that we have family traditions, and I know firsthand how impactful it is when you are younger. Let me know down below what you think! Also what family traditions do you do, or have you made a plan to start them?
